Boston Tragedy

Our hearts were heavy watching the events unfold in Boston. What should have been a celebration of hard work and achievement was marred by two sick individuals. The biggest tragedy was that most of the victims were spectators who wait for hours to support their friends and family at the finish. As runners, we count on these people to push us harder and faster and we take it extremely personally when someone or something would cause harm to these selfless individuals.

That is one of the reasons why this struck so deep with us. Thanks to a Franklin resident and two-time Boston Marathoner, Molly Brown-Boulay we had a well-attended tribute to Boston Friday night. It was a great event that motivates me us as runners to work harder to get Boston Qualified. Here is a news clip of the event:

We also have a limited number of Greenlayer Tech T-Shirts available immediately for those running at Country Music Marathon and Half Marathon. You can get them for $10 at the Run Franklin/Franklin Half Marathon Booth on Thursday and Friday. It is located near the stage and the Rock and Roll Series tent. Leftovers will be available at Run Franklin on Monday, April 29. If we sell out, we will have a second order. Any proceeds will go towards helping the victims.

Franklin Half Marathon

1stHalfMarathonWe are pleased to announce the Inaugural Franklin Half Marathon in Leiper’s Fork on June 22, 2013. This is the first half marathon to be held on this side of town. We want this to be an event that brings people back year after year. Even if you are not a runner, we would love to have you sign up as a volunteer.

This race features state-of-the art timing by Start 2 Finish Events, a tech T, finisher medal and fresh Georgia peaches at the finish line, provided by The Peach Truck. The course meanders through the country roads of Leiper’s Fork and finishes through the downtown district.

This year, the charity partner we chose was Waves, Inc. Waves is a wonderful organization that enables individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to progress toward their full potential. Run Franklin and Waves believes that athletes come in all shapes and sizes and ability levels. We encourage you to check out Waves and consider partnering with them and their mission.

Registration fees are only $45 until June 1, 2013 when they increase to $65. Sign-up now and save money: www.FranklinTNHalf.com
